name of the artist: al comet

Al Comet is a project that I have the opportunity to re-launch every six or seven years, when The Young Gods decide to make a break between long touring periods. In these moments, what matters first is pleasure and pure music."
Al Comet
    >Cometo's Project

The French speaking Swiss keyboard player his first solo album seven years ago in 1990: Europ Pirat Tour. It was recorded live on tour with Bertrand Siffert, the Young Gods'sound engineer.
And a special tour it was. Nothing was booked in advance. Al and Bertrand were turning up without warning in bars and cultural centres all around Europe as a ommando ready to plug in and play every time they felt like it, much to the surprise of punters and owners of the venue.

"Comet", his second album and the first on Play It Again Sam Records, is another step in Al' creative process. Instead of using volume as an instrument, e had, due to his family situation (he's the father of twins) to keep the volume down. This transferred into the discovery of musical space and relaxing and contemplative tracks (some might see an influence of Al's neighbourhood, the Swiss Alps).

"The starting idea was to compose instrumental tracks which would generate their own rhythm dynamic, which would groove without any drums"

These iconoclast 9 home-made tracks are still the reflection of Al's personality: the humour is omnipresent and the treatment, if always electronic, is never far from the spirit of Zappa or Beefheart, two of his long time heroes.

Open-minded and enthousiastic, Al Comet had collaborated with Swiss video director Alain Favre who illustrated visually five of the album tracks on a video only available on the Al Comet web site (http://www.theyounggods.com/comet)
